Invisalign Putting On
Invisalign FAQs

Q: How does Invisalign work?

A : Invisalign involves a series of custom aligner trays that are made from flexible, clear plastic. The aligners are created according to your doctor’s specifications. They go over your teeth a little like a really comfortable, invisible mouthguard and exert controlled, gentle force, which moves the teeth into their correct places. Each set of aligners makes slight adjustment based on Dr. Gutierrez or Dr. Devoti’s prescription. When you finish the series, you’ll have a beautiful smile to show for it.

Q: How visible is Invisalign?

A : Invisalign is barely noticeable, which is why it’s a highly sought after alternative to metal braces. It can be just as effective in correcting an imperfect smile but without the brackets and wires.

Q: Can you feel Invisalign aligners on your teeth?

A : You’ll notice your aligners for the first 24 hours or so, especially after you’ve put in a new set. Your teeth might feel slightly sensitive initially but after a day, you won’t even notice you have them in. Since the aligners are smooth and have no abrasive brackets and wires, they’re much more comfortable than traditional braces.

Q: How much does Invisalign cost?

A : We’ll go over the cost of treatment with you at your consultation and we’re always honest and upfront. We work hard to ensure Invisalign, or any treatment, works for your budget, which is why we accept almost every major PPO insurance, a variety of forms of payment, flexible spending account and health savings account monies, as well as patient financing options like CareCredit.

Q: How long does Invisalign treatment take?

A : After Dr. Gutierrez or Dr. Devoti examine you and come up with a treatment plan, they’ll be able to tell you how long your treatment will last. It depends on how severe your orthodontic issues are. Because Invisalign is so precise and relies on advanced diagnostic and treatment planning tools, it can usually get the job done more quickly than traditional braces. Some patients are even able to straighten their teeth in as little as six months.

Q: How often do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?

A : We recommend wearing your aligners for over 20 hours per day. You can take them out to brush and floss your teeth and to eat.

Q: Do I have to take my aligners out every time I eat?

A : Yes. It can be a little inconvenient at first but we promise you’ll get used to it. As a bonus, you might find yourself snacking less and eating less junk food!

Q: Are Invisalign aligners difficult to clean?

A : Not at all. You can simply take them out and brush them with a toothbrush. There are also cleaning systems offered by Invisalign that you can purchase to make the process even easier.

Q: Are the aligners easy to lose?

A : It is fairly easy to lose your aligners and they can be costly to replace. Try to keep them in a safe place whenever you take them out so you don’t lose track of them.

Q: Is Invisalign a viable option for me?

A : The only way to find out if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign is to schedule a consultation so we can assess your aesthetic goals when it comes to your teeth. If your case will be a larger undertaking, Invisalign might not be the most effective course of action for you. However, if you are an ideal candidate, we’ll discuss your options and figure out the best plan for your smile.

Q. Will I need Retainers?

A : Yes. The only way to maintain your new smile for life is by wearing retainers. Without them, your teeth will gradually shift back into their old positions. Obviously, you don’t want to go from invisible aligners to a noticeable wire retainer, which is why we offer our patients Vivera Retainers from the makers of Invisalign. The clear appliances are crafted using the same cutting-edge technology as your aligners. The retainers are custom made based on a 3D model of your mouth for a precise fit and maximum comfort. Wear them according to Dr. Gutierrez or Dr. Devoti’s instructions for gorgeous, lasting results.
